This project on a 1930s end of terrace house balanced the ground and upper floor spaces. The house had previously had a nicely designed (if ugly) loft conversion which added a lot of space upstairs. Downstairs however remained the original kitchen and small livingroom facing the road. Previous work had put a new double door between the livingroom and kitchen which achieved little apart from to reduce the amount of wall and meant the furniture was rearranged to block off the livingroom door to the hall.
The new design made the most of the splayed plot but adding a room on the corner of the kitchen, thereby keeping direct access from the kitchen to the garden. The doorway to the livingroom was blocked up which allowed the kitchen units to be moved to the other brighter side of the room. This also allowed the understairs cupboard to be converted into a WC.
The completed rooms have added a second living space next to the garden and created a light kitchen diner with far more worktop and storage space.
